Shannon Murphy

Hailed by Variety as one of 10 directors to watch in 2020, Shannon Murphy is a multi-award-winning film, television and theatre director. After an award-winning career in theatre and having established herself in television, Shannon’s debut feature film Babyteeth (2019) earnt her accolades around the world. Starring Ben Mendelsohn, Essie Davis and Eliza Scanlen; Babyteeth went on to win nine AACTA awards including Best Film, Best Director and all top acting awards as well as earning Shannon a prestigious 2021 BAFTA nomination for Best Director. Babyteeth received countless other nominations internationally, including the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Film Festival – one of only two films directed by women in festival competition.
Prior to this, Shannon had established herself as a television director. Her most recent work included the latest season of Killing Eve (2020), along with directing many much loved Australian television shows such as Rake, Offspring and Love Child.
In 2007 Murphy attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and has since been named the most influential graduate of that decade.
Shannon has also directed Australian productions for Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre, The Griffin Theatre Company, The Seymour Centre and The Old Fitzroy.
